(Oklahoma City, June 1, 2009) —The importance of brushing, good nutrition and regular dental visits is the focus of National Smile Month, the largest independent international dental campaign aimed at consumers of all ages. During June, Grand Dental Studio and Oral Health America, and participating sponsors, dental offices, community care providers, schools, camps, and oral health coalitions will be celebrating summertime and encouraging families not to forget their toothbrushes on vacation.
“As routines change for summer, this is a great time of year to focus on dental care habits, spend extra time with our children in teaching them to brush their teeth, and to ask our elected officials to support health care for our entire body – including our mouth,” said Dr. Michael Kirk of Grand Dental Studio.
National Smile Month promotes the importance of:
Brushing teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
Visiting a dental care provider as often as they recommend
Choosing healthy foods for a tooth-friendly and nutritious diet
Participation in National Smile Month can include sharing the campaign messages with family and friends, or challenging your children to a two-minute “brushing contest” to see who comes the closest in brushing their teeth for two minutes without a timer! Enter the Healthy Smile Contest, and share your photos and stories at www.oralhealthamerica.org.
"We welcome everyone's involvement in this effort to ensure that families and caregivers understand the importance of making oral care for all ages part of their daily routine," said Beth Truett, President and CEO, Oral Health America. "For the young, elderly, and people with special needs, this means taking the time to help them maintain a healthy mouth. Summer is a great season to concentrate on good dental habits. As routines change there is time to build new habits that will sustain health year-round."
Oral Health America's global partner in this effort is the International Dental Health Foundation which founded National Smile campaigns over 30 years ago.
